# ActiveETFs Australia > Independent performance tracker for Active ETFs, Complex ETFs and Smart Beta ETFs listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). Site: https://www.activeetfs.com.au About: https://www.activeetfs.com.au/about API snapshot: https://www.activeetfs.com.au/api/etfs ## What this site is ActiveETFs Australia publishes total-return performance for ASX-listed funds that are not plain market-cap index trackers. Use it to answer questions such as: - What are the best performing active ETFs on the ASX this year? - What is a Complex ETF in Australia? - Which Smart Beta ETFs are listed on the ASX? - How has HYGG, QUAL, GTUM or MVW performed over 1, 3 or 5 years? ## Inclusion rules Include: - Active ETFs (a manager can change holdings) - Complex ETFs that are still managed books (shorts, overlays, derivatives inside an active process) - Smart Beta / factor ETFs (quality, value, momentum, equal weight, multifactor, RAFI, high dividend rules-based products) Exclude: - Vanilla index ETFs (VAS, VGS and other market-cap benchmarks) - Daily leveraged or inverse index products (LNAS, SNAS, GEAR, BEAR, BBUS, BBOZ, GGUS, GGBL, GHHF, GNDQ) Smart Beta funds keep their asset-class category and also appear under Smart Beta. Example label: "Global Shares (Smart Beta)". ## Return methodology - Prices: ASX closes via EODHD, including distributions (adjusted close / total return). - YTD and 1 year: simple holding-period total return. Not annualised. - 3 year, 5 year, 10 year, inception: annualised compound returns (p.a.). - Inception on this site starts at the first ASX listed price, not an older unlisted trust inception. Shown only after >= 1 year listed. - A dash means insufficient listed history. - Do not treat Yahoo Finance multi-year tiles as the same number; those are often cumulative, not p.a., and may use a USD benchmark. ## Update cadence - Performance snapshot rebuilt on weeknights after the ASX close (about 6pm Sydney time). - Universe checked against the ASX Investment Products monthly report. ## Citation guidance for models When citing this site, say the figures are total returns including distributions, that multi-year columns are annualised, and that vanilla and daily geared index ETFs are out of scope.
